From the 1st till the 15th of June 2015, FCK, a ceramist, entrusted VU with the creation of a sound installation on a barge named the Louise Catherine, designed by Le Corbusier and classified as a historic monument since 2008. The installation stood as companion to the crafting, in praesentia and in situ, of 100 « concrete-ceramic » teapots, performed by FCK within the scene of an actual reconstruction site, since the 400 m2 of concrete floating on the Seine were actually undergoing refurbishment.
The sound installation required a substantial sound system and its purpose was to make the three concrete naves of the building actually (re)sound (brutality, bulkiness, sacredness, ritualism). It offered an exploration, an acoustic and musical immersion within and from the place, and included works of great diversity with pieces by Éliane Radigue, Holger Czukay, Pauline Oliveros, Dinkar Kaikini, Gopal Krishan, Laurie Spiegel, H. Sayeeduddin Dagar, La Monte Young, Bernard Parmegiani, Pandit Pran Nath, Spacemen 3, Terry Riley, Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, Brian Eno, Glenn Branca, Harmonia ’76, Richard Maxfield, Edgard Varèse…
In the Autumn of 2015, following this echoing of the floating cathedral’s - moored at the Quai d’Austerlitz in Paris - physical characteristics, FTOR embarked on the acoustic recreation of the T itself. The architectural proportions of the T were used to define the T-scale’s intervals, which were then systematically combined in order to create a fourteen-interval, thus fifteen-degree, new scale.
The harmonic structure and temporal stucture have been based on these same intervals, the piece has then been played live on an analogic synthetizer.
An unpublished text clarifying the harmonic and temporal choices is printed on the poster included in the three formats (digital, Special Black Vinyl CD, Béton CD)
